“Just don’t shoot the elephants” was the only instruction I received on this gig. I might expect “no flash photography”, but no elephants? “It’s in their contract” was all I was told. I never knew elephants had contracts, but I’m sure there’s a lot about the circus I don’t know.
Something else I learned on this shoot is that despite the colors of pretty lights, flashy costumes, and layers of makeup, sometimes the best treatment is a simple monochrome filter. Composition and contrast proved to be the themes for this evening.
